Which Alabama schools are ranked top 25, ‘most improved’? Find out.

Fifty Alabama schools are being recognized for their success on the state’s school report cards for the 2022-23 school year.

Twenty-five schools are in the Top 25 category and will receive $2,000 cash each. And the remaining 25 schools showed the most improvement on their report card score and will receive $8,000 each.

While the Top 25 list contains some of the same schools on last year’s list - like those in Mountain Brook and Vestavia Hills City school districts, the most improved schools are all new.

Lawmakers created the Legislative School Performance Program in 2012 as part of the law creating school and district report cards, but didn’t fund it until 2020.

Beginning in 2020, lawmakers gave the Alabama State Department of Education $250,000 annually to award to schools showing academic excellence.

The state board of education will formally recognize the schools during the Feb. 8 meeting in Montgomery.
